: Perineum
: 1. Define the parts of the external aspects of the penis. Include a x-section in your answer.
: 2. Describe the external genitalia of the female.
I basically drew the ones Dr. Zagon drew for us in class
: 3. Define the perineum.
- inferior to the floor of pelvic cavity/UG diaphragm
- b/w pubic symphysis & coccyx
- diamond shaped
: 4. Describe the urogenital triangle as to structures - superficial to deep.
Drew these
: 5. What is the Urogenital diaphragm?
"nothing more than the deep transverse perineus m. and the sphincter urethra m." direct quote from the lecture
: 6. What is the inferior fascia (perineal membrane) of the U.G. diaphragm?
it's the superior border of the superificial pouch and the inferior border of the deep perineal pouch. parietal pevlic fascia which is an extension of the transversalis fascia
: 7. What is the arcuate ligament?
- aka inferior pubic ligament
- connects the 2 pubic bones below
- upper boundary of the pubic arch
: 8. What is the transverse perineal ligament? How does this ligament relate to the superior and inferior fascia of the U.G. diaphragm?
- it's basically the thickened fascia over the ant. border of the UG diaphragm
- this ligament is inferior (and the arcuate ligament is superior) to the deep dorsal v and dorsal a's, n's of penis
: 9. Where are the bulbourethral glands? Where do they terminate?
- only in males
- they pass through the inf. fascia of the UGD and opens into the urethra at the bulb of penis
: 10. What is the course of the deep dorsal vein of the penis/clitoris?
- blood from corpus cavernosum -> venous plexus -> deep dorsal vein of penis (superficial to tunica albigenea & deep to Buck's fascia) -> passes superficial to transverse perineal lig & deep to arcuate ligament
: 11. What is the perineal body (central tendon)?
where these guys meet:
- bulbospongiosus
- external anal sphincter
- superficial & deep transverse perineal m.
: 12. What is the ischiorectal fossa?
: 13. What is the anterior recess of the ischiorectal fossa?
: 14. What is the posterior recess of the ischiorectal fossa?
just read the answers to the essay question about ischiorectal fossa, which showed up almost every other year
: 15. What are the contents of the superficial pouch?
erectile tissues & muscles
- bulb of penis/vestivule & bulbospongiosus
- crus of penis/clitoris & ischiocavernosus
: 16. What are the contents of the deep pouch?
external sphincter urethra, deep transverse perineus m, bulbourethral glands
: 17. Compare the glans of the penis to the glans of the clitoris in terms of the origin of the erectile tissue.
root of penis = 2 crura + bulb of penis
root of clitoris = only the 2 crura, NOT the bulb of vestibule. this is according to student gray's
: 18. What is the bulb of the vestibule?
it's an erectile structure, homologous of the bulb of penis. it's a paired, present on each side, covered by bulbospongiosus
: 19. The bulbourethral glands have homology with the greater vestibular glands. Compare these glands in location.
- bulbourethral glands = within the deep pouch
- greater vestibular glands = out of vagina, deep to the bulbs, superior to the perinal membrane
: 20. What is the superior fascia and inferior fascia of the pelvic diaphragm.
superior fascia is basically the suprior fascia of the pelvic diaphragm. no. just kidding.
according to m00t point, the suprior fascia is continuous with the fascia of obturator internus, which is the parietal pelvic fascia, which is an extension of the transversalis fascia
also according to m00t point, the inferior fascia is also parietal pelvic fascia which is an extension of the transversalis fascia. basically, they're all extensions of the transversalis fascia
