After talking with the authors of this question I find that it is supposed to read: glossopharyngeal, not facial.

: I think I'm thoroughly befuddled. Isn't the auriculotemporal nerve a sensory nerve arising from the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve?
: So does this ask about 1) the motor branches of the facial nerve coming out of the stylomastoid foramen or 2) the motor branches of the trigeminal coming out of the foramen ovale to the anterior digastric or 3) the sensory branches of the maxillary (V3) division going to the auriculotemporal?
