In one of the previous exams i came across a question that says that the popliteus muscle is intracapsular but extrasynovial in the knee joint. I agree with this seeing that during my disection the muscle disappeared deep to the arcuate ligament and the rest of the lateral portion of the capsule.

: thanks aaron. couldnt have said it better myself. my group came to that same conclusion about a "generic joint."

: : Matt,

: : Looking at my notes, if that picture is on the first page after the list, I believe it was a representative picture of a joint, with generic terms for any "articular capsule", "articular cartilage", etc. The same picture comes up again 5 pages later with the specific terms for the knee. In this case, the "articular meniscus" labeled on the first picture happens to be the medial meniscus.

: : To answer Dr. Zagon's questions, the way I understand it, the arcuate and oblique popliteal ligaments, as well as the popliteus, are all extracapsular. The medial meniscus is attached to the tibial collateral ligament, while the lateral meniscus is unnattached to the lateral collateral ligament.

:
: : : Dear Matt:
: : : And while you are at it, what about the popliteus muscle and the knee joint?
: : : Is the arcuate ligament intracapsular,intrasynovial?
: : : What about the oblique popliteal ligament as to the capsule and synovial cavity?
: : : Which meniscus - or is it both - that is attached to a collateral ligament?
: : : : I am looking at my notes for the knee joint and and saw that we labeled a structure called the "Articular Meniscus."
: : : : It is on the medial side of the knee joint, intrasynovial, intracapsular, and does not appear to be the medial meniscus. If anyone knows what this is, we would like some help.
