: Can you elaborate on bucket handle and pump handle breathing?

Please take a look at previous essay answer guides for mechanics of breathing.
pump handle - sternum, upper 7 ribs, Ant/Post diameter
bucket handle - costal margin, ribs 8-10, transverse diameter
Vertical expansion - diaphragm

A key observation is the shape of the costotransverse joints
upper ribs - cupped
lower ribs - planar

Joints involved
costovertebral
costotransverse
costochondral
sternochondral

Muscles involved - have something to say but this is open.

Please note that we are not looking for a recital of anatomy on your examination as much as we are looking for thoughtful discussions. We, the staff, are hoping to learn from your answers. It is our turn to become students.
