Dear Doctors in the making:
Well, we had quite a week of information.
Now, this weekend let's process it all so we can move forward with next week.
Some of you are in a quiet - and not so quiet - panic. Let's calm down.
First, please try to join/organize a study group.
Second, start with answering the questions I am posting daily. Include the little test questions I am giving you as well.Use my notes and your textbook for help.
Third, get into lab and look at a few cadavers - with at least one colleague - and ask each other 10 identifications you are sure of - and let your colleague ask 10 identifications he/she is sure of. Compare notes and discuss why these structures are what you - or he/she - claim. Criteria and relationships need to be expressed between you. Let debates be settled by meeting with a teaching assistant.
Fourth, look at the old exam questions that are directly relevant to this week's work. And answer them - and review what was considered an acceptable answer (Dr. Evey has some answer sheets on a few exams). These questions are pointing out what is vital for you to learn.
Fifth, don't overlook embryology. Read the chapter, take the test, look over the answers. Simple. Over 50% of the exam is already known to you!!!
Sixth, if continue to worry, write to me and I will give you the email addresses of some of the teaching assistants. Write an email to one of them pronto - this weekend certainly. Tell them how you feel. Let them lead you to a comfortable pattern of learning. These are top-notch people who care about you, and enjoy teaching.
Seventh, take a break each day and enjoy yourself. Think of how much you've learned this week. You are going to be doctors. What a wonderful life you have now - and in the future.
Your future patient.
