: : : 24. The flexor hallucis longus passes deep to the sustentaculum tali of the talus bone?
: : Sort of? There's a groove on the underside of it in which the tendon of flexor hallucis longus runs.

: : False, the sustentaculum tali is on the Calcaneus.

: ~Yes it is on the Calcaneus, but according to baby gray's "the underside of the sustentaculum tali has a distinct groove running from posterior to anterior and along which the tendon of the flexor hallucis longus muscle travels to into the sole of the foot." So I would agree with True.

Generally, I refrain from commenting on ISZ1's questions so not to inadvertently divert attention from the point of the question. In this case, I can not resist.

Why the author of "baby" Gray's correctly uses anatomical terminology for the A/P orientation of the groove of the sustentaculum tali but then uses "underside" instead of inferior escapes me. The real Gray's is, arguably, the only scholarly textbook of anatomy currently in print not tainted by publishers targeting the allied health "sciences" instead of medical students. I must admit, Gray's for Wannabes has nice pictures. The last time I used the phrase "Gray's for Wannabes" in the lecture hall I was booed out of the room.

Tangential rants aside. Please note that when answering a true/false question, the entire question must be true for the question to be graded as true. A true clause in the presence of false clauses does not make the question true. One false clause and the question is false. A true/false question is a special case of a multiple choice question where all choices must be true for the question to be true. Any clause that evaluates to false makes the question false. In this specific case, the sustentaculum tali is not of the talus bone. The question is false no matter what other clauses may evaluate to true.
